Going to the parks is such fun and finding lots of items you just would love to buy but you do have financial limitations so pass on and leave that special item behind. There are places in Orlando that you need to consider when you are visiting and doing your shopping for souvenirs. You will find lots of off brand merchandise in the International Drive shops but to find Disney items I recommend going to the Disney Character Warehouse stores. There are two of them in Orlando and they are both located in the outlet malls.
It is easier to get to the one by the Basilica as you can park in the back or ride one of the buses that goes there from many of the hotels. The one at the end of International Drive is a bit harder to get to as parking is usually a nightmare. They do have valet parking but I am frugal so tend to fend for myself. The Character Warehouse is toward the center of the mall but it is well worth the walk.
Check out this video of shopping at the outlet malls.
It is such fun to go to the outlets as the change merchandise frequently and I always find something that is currently in the park as well as the Character Warehouse.
Of course if you are talking shopping you cannot pass up Amazon. I found a few new jewelry items that I especially liked this week. The little bracelets are all the rage with young girls and these were a couple of my favorites:
The Minion Movie was an incredible hit and the grandchildren loved it. They went to the movie at Universal Studios which made it an even better event than the regular Theatre. While at Universal they purchased a couple of Minion Blind Packages and had fun reviewing the contents.
It was great fun watching them open the packets and enjoy putting together the surprise. I think they will want to buy many, many more in the future and these are just a few of what is available. Check the shop on this blog for more selections in the Minion category.
Have you seen the new bridge at Downtown Disney. It really makes it so much easier to get from one side of downtown to the other. Downtown Disney is making so many changes and each week when I visit it seems to have added something else. I don’t like the parking as well as the old parking within walking distance of the Disney store, however, given the crowds, I understand why it was necessary. I didn’t often visit the far end of downtown and now I have to walk through it to get to the Lego store, or the Disney store. I find so many things that are new to me that have been there for a long time.
They are planning to close Disney Quest which has always been fun for the grand kids. It was a perk that you had with the annual Disney Pass. I hope they replace that perk with another one so we don’t lose something on our annual passes. They increase in price every year so one would expect the value to increase as well.
Speaking of downtown Disney, I am a real fan of the Lego Store. It always has crowds of little people and parents out front building something with the Lego’s that are provided on the tables out front. Also if there is anything you might want in the Lego line, you can find it here. Also separate pieces on a great wall of color in the back of the store. If you have a child that loves Lego’s, they have lost a few pieces at one time or another. Rather than throw away the entire project, you can buy the pieces that have been lost.
So the product I am proposing for you today is a combination of Lego and Disney. Take a look at this great Lego for your favorite child, grandchild, or birthday party for a child you love.
These are some great selections in a nice price range. Hope you find one you like and click on the picture to order.
The new Marvel store at Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney) is now open for business. I was a bit disappointed in the size as it was much smaller than I expected but the variety of merchandise is great. All the stores along that side of the Springs are quite narrow so they always seem crowded. If you haven’t been to Downtown Disney “Disney Springs” lately it is changing on a daily basis.
I love the floating cars and was hoping to get a ride in one of them but I don’t think they were offering rides to anyone. If you are planning a trip to Orlando, don’t miss a day at Disney Springs as it is well worth the time. If you love shopping, this is an absolute must stop.
Father’s Day is fast approaching so think about some of the items on Amazon that you may wish to order. My oldest son is a hunter so this is the place to send his children. Shop Amazon – Father’s Day Gift Guides in Hunting & Fishing
My youngest son would be more than happy with a new watch. Not that he doesn’t have a dozen of them, but he just loves watches so I would send his wife and daughter to this site: Shop Amazon Fashion – Father’s Day Shop
Try either of them if you have a fashionable father or one who loves the woods. Time for me to head outside as the day is absolutely beautiful and just waiting for me to enjoy a book, the sun, and some time on the patio.
It has started, Star Wars at Disney, and it is always crowded and exciting. I picked two products today that will enhance the Star Wars experience. The Wall Art is something for the kids that they can have as a remembrance all year-long. Decorate their room or play area with fun wall art. This is something you can do after visiting or before just to make the experience more fun.
The second product for today is the voice changer. What child would not enjoy this toy and at a great price. Order it today to take with you when you visit the parks. Add a bit of fun to the visit and continued use after you get back home. If you can’t make it to the parks, this is still a great toy that provides hours of fun.
If you haven’t made your arrangements yet, I recommend contacting Destinationsinflorida.com. Their agents are fantastic and have a solid knowledge of the parks and the best activities. Also the fast passes and how to make arrangements for the passes and the character Dinners. This is something you need to arrange in advance and they can help ensure you will have the best breakfast, lunch or dinner experience.
Yea, it is Star Wars!!

It is almost Christmas and the weather is beautiful in Orlando. Even though many say they don’t like the lack of seasons, I find the colored leaves reminiscent of Minnesota Fall.
Wondering what all my friends are going this Christmas and thinking of those who I have lost this year. Old friends are hard to come by and as we get older they are less and less of them around to talk with. I have several cousins and some old friends that I maintain contact with but none are very close and I don’t see any very often. I will see my grandchildren this Christmas and am looking forward to a trip North. Well only a couple hours north but a change from celebrating Christmas at my house. All families get to the point where they want their own traditions and this has finally happened with my boys and their families. I think of my mother at times like this and wonder if she was feeling the same ambivalence when we quit spending Christmas at home.
Mac was the first to refuse to come home and we spent many winter drives to Big Fork, MN. Then I was married and Christmas was at my home. We always spent some time at home in Breckenridge but I know it was never enough for mom. I have a much better perspective now that I am at the age she was at the time.
So I will look forward to change and adapt, say goodbye to old friends and family and move on through the season to what lies ahead in the New Year!!
Life is indeed change!!
I am sitting at home thinking about Christmas past and it was significantly different than what I see my children and grandchildren experiencing today. I grew up in a family that was poor, at least our Dad convinced us we were but we were less poor than many of our cousins and friends in the neighborhood. Christmas for us was being in the church performance as some member of the nativity. We had to learn songs and presentations and bible verses. Christmas eve was always church and we received a bag with a candy cane, hard candy and mixed nuts(not the kind that are shelled). Christmas morning was one present, something we had wished for all year, and a stocking filled with an apple, an orange and once again mixeed nuts. There were no ipads or computers, we played in the snow, visited cousins, aunts, uncles and grandpa and grandmas. Our play was outside in the snow with a sled or ice skates. Christmas eve was at Grandpa and Grandma Sanborn’s usually with Alaskan King Crab and Midnight Mass. Christmas day was home in the morning and then off to Foxhome to be with all my mom’s family. It was incredible and we usually had to perform a song and gifts were exchanged. We drew names and set a limit but the gifts were somehow always amazing.
Christmas for my children will be a cruise with my oldest son’s wifes family and her brother’s family. Then they will spend Christmas at home for the first time in many years. Usually they spent it with me in Orlando but the grandchildren are getting older and wanted to be home. I will drive up for Christmas morning. I’ll be working from the 14-24th in Miami so a bit of a drive. Presents for them are many and of course a very special large one from Santa. My Indiana son, youngest, his wife and daughter will spend Christmas at his home and leave the next day to drive to Orlando to spend a week with me. I am sure we will have some Park adventures while they are here.
So what does Christmas mean to me. An opportunity to spend time with family and yes, I still attend church. I still enjoy the mixed nuts even though I have to shell them, and I am incredibly grateful that my children and their children have good lives and wonderful families. Is there any better Christmas than that? Yes, friends, extended family though far away, an older sister I love dearly and just thankful for each day I look down and my feet are above ground. Life is good, Christmas is different but the love and caring will never change.
There are those days and weeks when you struggle to get through and wish those old friends who mean so much to you lived closer. I have some very special friends who I don’t get to see very often but the amazing thing is I feel so close to them. One lives in Twisp, WA and we exchange emails and usually Christmas Cards. I know, however, if I went to visit today it would be as though no time had passed. Oh yes, we are older and water has gone under the bridges but friendship remains strong.
Another friend is in Japan…imagine trying to visit her but email has made our communication easy and powerful. She is an amazing woman who lives an adventure everyday.
One lives in Bismarck, ND. He and I go way back to Wahpeton and the Chahinkapa Park Pool. He checks up on me and keeps me up to date on his life, his son and his grandchild. He also reminds me of all the old fun times we had growing up.
Then there is my old true love who lives in Seattle. Throughout the years we have managed to remain friends and I think our friendship is stronger now than ever. I talked to him last year when we went on our Alaska cruise but didn’t get to see him. We have great memories of stop signs, Libby, Montana and Lakewood, Colorado. He has two sons as I do and we both have great families. Through it all he remains a great friend and I always wonder how we wound up on opposite sides of the country. Probably my doing as I never was happy in one place for too long. All I know is the thought of this friendship makes me feel incredible and at peace.
Thank God for all the old friends in my life and the blessings that come with new friends. My wish would be that my grandchildren will have friends in their life that are comparable to those I have had the pleasure to have enter mine.
Isn’t it bad enough we have to get spam in our email, now it is entering the comment sections of our blogs. If you want to comment on my blog…great …but don’t send me your emails filled with all your ads, garbage, healthful tips etc. I am tired of deleting and marking the spam. Find some other way to get your message across but leave my blog alone!! I am here to talk about Florida, Michigan, today is New Jersey and other places that are fun. A trip to Disney or Animal Kingdom brings absolute joy to my heart…your spam does the opposite so bug off!!
