Halloween seems a long way off but not at Disney World. Preparation is going on the Mickey’s Not so Scary Halloween Party and it opens on September 15. It lasts through November 1 and is great fun. If you have never been there, take the opportunity to visit. You will have the opportunity to see glowing pumpkins, grinning ghosts and all of the characters is the most incredible costumes. The minute you want into the park you will smell the aroma of those wonderful pumpkin muffins which are made in the Main Street Bakery.
And for Candy, it is a must stop at the Candy Palace on Main Street. They have these great Mickey apples, Dirt ‘n’ Worms apples and cookies topped with Gummi Worms. I love the pumpkin seed brittle and think I will try to make it at home this year. I always save the pumpkin seeds from the pumpkins but this is certainly a new use for them.
As it gets closer to the event I will share other activities that are in preparation. In the meantime, start looking for your costumes.

This is the season for rain every afternoon in Orlando. If you are planning a trip to Disney or Universal I recommend bringing poncho’s. You can also buy them at any of the parks in case you forget them. No matter what the weather, the parks are such fun and we visit them rain or shine. The only time we ensure we are under cover is when the lightening starts. That is the one thing in Florida that is very, very dangerous and you don’t want to be out in the weather during lightening storms.
If you are one of those travelers who likes to plan ahead for any possibility take a look at some of the fun ponchos you can get on Amazon. These are often not available at the parks as once the rain starts, many of these will sell out and you will be among the generic poncho travelers. If you like to stand out and look a little different or if you are a fashionista, take a look at the variety that is available.
These are also great going away gifts for grandparents to give to their grandchildren who may be going to the park.
If you prefer umbrellas, Disney has a great variety of fun ones for you and your young Disney Fans. You can use them at the park and take them home with you as well. The cars umbrella is a fun one for little boys.

Going to the parks is such fun and finding lots of items you just would love to buy but you do have financial limitations so pass on and leave that special item behind. There are places in Orlando that you need to consider when you are visiting and doing your shopping for souvenirs. You will find lots of off brand merchandise in the International Drive shops but to find Disney items I recommend going to the Disney Character Warehouse stores. There are two of them in Orlando and they are both located in the outlet malls.
It is easier to get to the one by the Basilica as you can park in the back or ride one of the buses that goes there from many of the hotels. The one at the end of International Drive is a bit harder to get to as parking is usually a nightmare. They do have valet parking but I am frugal so tend to fend for myself. The Character Warehouse is toward the center of the mall but it is well worth the walk.
Check out this video of shopping at the outlet malls.
It is such fun to go to the outlets as the change merchandise frequently and I always find something that is currently in the park as well as the Character Warehouse.
Of course if you are talking shopping you cannot pass up Amazon. I found a few new jewelry items that I especially liked this week. The little bracelets are all the rage with young girls and these were a couple of my favorites:
